Meet the Truffle Dogs

Meet the Wine & Truffle Co dogs - Sunny, Izzie, Bella, Al and Andy.

Sunny (right), a 6 year old Kelpie X Labrador Breed was Fran's first truffle dog and is well known for her overly powerful nose and ability to tell us if we dig out the right truffle.  Her reward for finding a truffle is a game with her ball.

Izzie (left), a pretty 3 year old Beagle, is just as keen on truffle hunting as Sunny. She is nicknamed Princesss because when she was a pup learning to truffle hunt she would show us where the truffle was located by sitting on it.  So often did this happen, that many of the truffle farmers believed Lizzie smelt truffles through her bottom! Izzie has now grown up into a roly-poly beagle, as she has realised she can claim more rewards (treats) if she works non-stop.  Her concentration has grown immensely this year as she is now working for up to, and over, an hour at a time.

Bella (right), a very bouncy black Labrador, is into her second season of training and is the Jester of the Court of Princess Izzie. She is now finding the truffles, marking the exact spot and doing extremely well.

Two more additions to the Truffiere are brothers Al (left) and Andy (pictured below with Bella).  Andy has found his niche in life and is going to be The Wine & Truffle Co's best dog, although his brother Al is not too keen on the idea of working for a living and would prefer to stay at home chewing on a bone!

Like most siblings they are total opposites - Al loves to keep the ball to himself, whereas Andy will share his with everyone that will play with him.
