Closure Gourmet Café
Unfortunately the Gourmet Café has closed at the end of January 2012. We have been very grateful for the enthusiastic support we received from both visitors and locals who enjoyed the great food prepared and served by our dedicated staff at The Wine & Truffle Co Gourmet Café. Against all odds they proved that it is possible to create a team which can excel.

The decision to close our restaurant has been very difficult, however the restaurant has not made a profit in the 5 years we have operated it and the prospects for increased tourism to the area from the "Royalties for Regions" programme seems more talk than action.

Without local and state government resolve to create tourism opportunities in the region our management decided we would be unlikely to attract the numbers to make the operation of the restaurant viable.

The Wine & Truffle Co remains committed to Manjimup and we have recently closed our Perth office and moved all our administration to Manjimup. For those who do not know, 80% of our annual truffle harvest is exported to 21 countries. With our neighbor, Al Blakers, The Wine & Truffle Co has put Manjimup on the world truffle map, and Manjimup is spoken of, in fine dining restaurants the world over, the same reference as Perigord in France and Alba in Italy.

Manjimup is a beautiful part of Australia and indeed the world, however if the good work that the local truffle industry is doing to create worldwide recognition is to bear fruit for the Manjimup region, then council and state government need to realise "super towns" do not just happen - they are created.

If "super town" is a mantle Manjimup is ever to wear, now is the time to move forward and for the elected representatives, businesses and the community to get together to create a town and region that is vibrant and attracts visitors in sufficient number to support local businesses, creating and securing jobs for its young people.

If we see that type of energy and commitment, we will be able to review our decision by working with an experienced restaurant operator, capable of meeting the high standards we have set.

Our cellar door will remain open, 7 days a week.
